Maine Island Trail Association (MITA) is an organization near and dear to RTW’s heart. It’s not an overstatement to say that without the Maine Island Trail, we likely would have never started our rowing business. Dameon and I wouldn’t have been inspired to thru-row the Maine coast in 2018 without MITA’s public-access camp sites on islands all along the way…and therefore wouldn’t have felt prepared to do the Race to Alaska…and therefore wouldn’t have gained the experience and knowledge needed to offer Adventure Rows and our other rowing experiences to the public.
Through its partnerships with private land owners, the publishing of its annual guidebook, and volunteer clean-ups to remove trash from the islands, MITA makes Maine’s mostly privately-owned coast open to the public at dozens of islands up and down the coast.
MITA is holding its SPLASH! Online Auction right now, and RTW had donated a private lesson to the cause! Plus there’s a bunch of other really great Maine-made experiences and products available in the auction - check it out here!
